Hearing loss has often been referred to as an “invisible disability”, not just because of the lack of visible symptoms, but because it has long been stigmatised in communities. Unaddressed hearing loss is the third largest cause of years lived with disability globally. Recent meta-analysis suggested that hearing loss can almost double the risk of dementia (relative risk = 1.9 times) among older adults. This was a webinar to enhance the continuing professional development of local audiologists in managing the hearing loss and thus the communication difficulties and cognitive decline among older adults. Close to half of the local practicing audiologists participated in this webinar.
